Frequently Asked Questions
Can I use an SAT practice test for the PSAT?
Yes. The digital PSAT/NMSQT and the SAT have the same structure: 98 questions in 2 hours 14 minutes, 54 in Reading and Writing and 44 in Math, in two modules each. Our practice tests score you on the SAT's 400 to 1600 scale; the PSAT's runs from 320 to 1520.
How is the PSAT scored?
Each section is scored from 160 to 760, for a total from 320 to 1520. The PSAT/NMSQT also gives a Selection Index that the National Merit Scholarship program uses as its first screen.
Is the PSAT adaptive?
Yes. Like the SAT, how you do on the first module of each section decides whether the second module is harder or easier.
Where can I practice for the PSAT for free?
College Board's Bluebook app has free official practice tests. On CuePrep's 3-day trial you get a full-length adaptive test, Reading and Writing and Math practice by skill, and Desmos techniques.
